Cyan's Z-Series platforms are widely recognized as the industry's first "purpose-built" packet-optical transport platforms. The Z-Series modularly support the aggregation and grooming of packet, SONET/SDH, OTN and wavelength services natively in individual, highly-integrated platforms. The beauty of the Cyan Z-Series is that any platform can be configured initially as a single-purpose, single-service platform and then evolved to support additional functionality as required. This creates the practical ability to introduce the Z-Series into existing networks for a point service or application, and then incrementally cut over additional services and functionality to gain the broader operational benefits of an integrated packet-optical transport network as legacy systems are retired.

The Cyan Z-Series platforms are recognized for scalability with "True 100G Ready" backplane designs supporting over 100 Gbps per service module slot for an easy migration to 100GbE and ODU4 services. This attribute assures that future 100G services can be groomed across cards for fully loaded transports for a simple plug-and-play, operationally efficient migration to future 100G services.

Recognizing the need for scale from the network edge to the core, the Cyan Z-Series platforms are available in a variety of configurations. Platforms range from the 2RU, temperature hardened, "access-edge optimized" Cyan Z22, to the 5RU "metro-edge optimized" Cyan Z33, and the 13 RU "metro and regional optimized" Cyan Z77. The Z-Series platforms support a variety of interchangeable Z-Series service modules to support a wide range of applications requiring Ethernet services, as well as packet, TDM and/or wavelength aggregation, grooming and transport services.

The level of integration provided with Cyan Z-Series modules often exceeds that available with legacy platforms. For example, a single Z-Series Ethernet service module natively supports full MEF services with advanced VLAN editing, tagging, stacking, QoS/CoS and full OAM, plus connection oriented Ethernet transport, and optional OTN wrapping for a low-cost and simplified migration to DWDM. When DWMD is required, Z-Series customers can simply plug in a single-slot terminal multiplexer DWDM module or wavelength selectable switch ROADM module to drive multiple wavelengths per fiber without requiring additional connection oriented Ethernet modules, OTN transponder modules, EDFA amplifier modules, or OSC modules which are typically required with legacy transport platforms. The result is Cyan's Z-Series service module slots do more, with less space, less power, less interconnection cables, and less cost. And simple point-and-click provisioning with CyMS simplifies provisioning and ongoing operations support for superior operational performance!
