CyMS Multi-Layer Network Management System
CyMS Multi-Layer Management System
The CyMS is the industry's first multi-layer network management system with 3-dimensional visualization. CyMS provides the full suite of fault, configuration, accounting, provisioning and security (FCAPS), and much more.
CyMS embraces TMF MTNM and ITU G.800 principles to provide a multi-layer, multi-technology, and virtual transport services management solution. CyMS manages the relationships between networking layers, from the service, all the way down to the duct. Innovative 3-dimensional graphical representations support a What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get (WYSIWYG) user interface to configure, monitor, maintain, and operate your networks and underlying equipment and facilities.
Multi-layer Management Innovation
Transport networks are composed of multiple technology and logical layers. Layered networking paradigms are used by all networking technologies, whether packet, TDM, or optical. A typical transport stack goes beyond classical OSI layers, and includes ducts or conduits, fibers, DWDM wavelengths, TDM and packet transport technologies and services. Network layers are independently planned, provisioned and managed.
CyMS supports an integrated view of these network assets. CyMS is based on TMF.814 MTNM modeling rules, and supports a distributed hierarchical object database to track node and network objects, together with their inter- and intra-layer relationships.
Improving Network Performance and Network Operations Efficiency
CyMS goes beyond classical element management system (EMS) functions to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of network management. Intra-layer functions are trail and link-connection aware, and provide end-to-end visibility and control over how transport tunnels and services are groomed and routed. Inter-layer relationships provide service-to-duct visibility and control over multi-layer aggregation and multiplexing hierarchies.
CyMS employs a model driven architecture which can model virtually any aspect of the network. Network views can be sorted to virtualize a subnetwork within a network to clearly illustrate just the resources and the status of the resources associated with a particular service type or customer.
CyMS with Trail Viewer to clearly illustrate a tops-down view of the end-to-end service flow across multiple nodes which compose the end-to-end service connection. X-Ray vision expands visual information, clearly displaying precisely which cards, ports and faceplate or backplane interconnections are associated with that service. CyMS rounds out this powerful visualization using G.805 standards-based techniques to clearly convey the health and status of every monitored point, across every node, card, port, and switch fabric to clearly and accurately focus network operators on the likely source of any service impacting network conditions.
CyMS also provides a powerful bottoms-up view of the network, using visualization techniques such as the Cable Viewer to accurately convey precisely which wavelengths, supporting specific aggregate transport layers and services are traversing individual fibers. This level of visualization makes it easy to understand exactly which services and transports are associated with various operational layers of the network to avoid un-intended consequences during routine operations.
Ongoing enhancements of this industry leading multi-layer visualization tool include the introduction of network "heat maps." Information on changing network conditions such as alarms, configuration-errors, congestion, and even capacity utilization are conveyed in a manner that encourages pre-emptive actions to avoid service disruptions, as well as faster fault isolation and resolution when disruptions occur.
Network utilization heat maps display operator selected layers of the network and the approximate percentage utilization of available network resources at each layer. Color coding of the virtual nodes and links at each layer provide operators with an intuitive indication of which network resources are at or approaching high levels of utlization. This insight can be leveraged to trigger a range of actions from pro-actively upselling network service capacity to network customers as well as the planning, installation and activation of additional network resources to provide capacity assurance for future service requirements.
In summary, CyMS introduces an entirely new and more intuitive framework for managing networks. A combination of simple and intuitive conveyence of detailed information and simple point-and-click operations make complex operations simple and error free. The result is improved performance of the network and critical SLA services, as well as an inherent reduction in operational costs.
