Cyan Z22 Edge Optimized Packet-Optical Transport Platform

The Cyan Z22 is an ultra-compact, edge optimized aggregation and transport member of Cyan’s Z-Series packet-optical transport platforms. Available in -48v and +24 volt versions, the compact, temperature hardened form factor makes it an ideal platform for pushing the packet-optical edge deep into the access network for aggregation rings or direct connectivity for wireless backhaul, metro Ethernet and edge aggregation applications.

At just 2RU in height, the Z22 supports two Z-Series multi-service modules, redundant common control and optional DWDM. The chassis based system can be configured with up to two Z-Series PME-216i service modules for up to 32 x 1 Gigabit Ethernet ports and 4 x 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports, with connection oriented Ethernet for superior performance and scalability.

MEF certified, the Z22 delivers industry leading Ethernet services with ultra-low latency, deterministic throughput, and guaranteed sub 50 ms protection switching to satisfy even the most demanding wireless backhaul, business Ethernet and edge aggregation services. 

Consistent with all other Z-Series platforms, the Z22 is designed to support 100 GbE and ODU4 services with a non-blocking backplane architecture that enables a smooth and easy migration to 100G services with a True 100G Ready architecture.
True 100G ReadyWhile a smooth migration to 100G is critical for the future, a nearer-term challenge for many service providers is dealing with the inevitable 10.1G problem - where something beyond 10G is required and fiber constraints make it impractical to simply light another 10G wave on adjacent fiber pairs. Cyan's Z22 answers this practical challenge with optional integrated DWDM, allowing a single fiber pair to support 2 x 10G or future 100G wavelength services through a simple plug-in LAD-2P module. The PME-216i's software selectable support of OTN framing completes the transition to DWDM while maintaining premium performance and full OAM visibility for a true Service Level Aware NetworkSM.

The Cyan Z22 represents more than just a smaller form factor version of the industry leading Cyan Z-Series multi-layer transport platforms. The chassis, common control and optional DWDM modules have been temperature hardened to allow for use in outside plant cabinet applications. Further more, the Z22 is available in both -48v and +24v power configurations to satisfy the potentially varying power options available at the cell tower and other aggregation locations. These attributes, combined with the highly dense 2RU form factor make the Z22 an ideal platform for edge aggregation and transport of wireless backhaul, business Ethernet and broadband aggregation and backhaul services.
 
Of course backhaul of diverse packet services requires the ability to oversubscribe best-effort services, while guaranteeing performance of SLA committed services. Cyan's Z-Series support for advanced E-LINE and E-LAN services with connection oriented Ethernet transport provides the performance and predictability of critical services, while cost-optimizing best effort services.

Service Level Aware Networks

Hitless software upgrades, field replaceable fans, redundant common control, Ethernet service modules and DWDM service modules all provide the flexibility configure and operate with the highest level of availability, or simply start out in non-redundant basic configurations to enter with the lowest possible entry costs. 

Of course the Z22 platforms and service modules are fully compatible and interoperable with the broader Z-Series platforms, planning (CyPlan), management (CyMS & CyCT), and verification (CyPortal) systems as part of a Service Level Aware Network.
