Every network is composed of multiple discrete layers, typically ranging from conduits or cable bundles with multiple fibers, with each fiber supporting one or more wavelengths, each wavelength supporting one or more layers of new and prior generation transport technologies and ultimately to services which are carried over these transport technologies.
